The Defender Mecha is a complete digital model created in Rhinoceros 4.0 by John Bear Ross. The File is offered with all commercial rights granted to any products created as a result of the file. Direct digital reproduction of the file or its contents for commercial use is prohibited. Basically: you prototype anything from the file, or base your own sculptures upon it, it's your's to use and sell, without another red cent owed to JBR. You don't have the right to give away the file (or its parts), or try to sell it yourself.

Included in the zipped file...

1. A standing Defender model, ready for posing.

2. A printable layout of the Defender and all its parts, ready for rapid prototyping. All you have to do is convert it to the .stl (stereolithography) format, and you're good to go. Many rapid prototype bureaus already have a copy of Rhino, though, or can download the free trial, and should be able to do the .stl conversion for you. Ask first, though: some bureaus prefer you do all the .stl work, or want a different format. Rhino is able to translate its files into most of the commercially-accepted prototyping formats.

3. An unfused lower arm and hand, enabling you to reconfigure the hand into custom positions. Grasping, pointing, or obscene gestures: they're your's to sculpt! Yay!

All this, plus a set of 1/100th Scale Waldos, for a mere $39.99 USD, or $395.00 USD for the exclusive rights to the file . Bear in mind that a normally-commissioned sculpt from me runs about $500 or more. Other digital sculptors out there charge even more. Thousands more. Trust me: This is a deal.

Email me at johnbearross@gmail.com to purchase an individual file, or the exclusive rights to this file. My paypal account is this email address as well.

Here for your perusing is the Universal Vehicle Parts File, a cross between clip art and a model kit. Using these bits, you are now able to create your own digital files of sci-fi vehicles. You can use these bits as is, or modify them to your will, adding and subtracting as you please. All commercial and resale rights are granted for the use and reproduction of any products created from this file, save for the reporduction of the digital file itself. Basically, anything you make from the file is your's. Don't copy the file to sell or give it away, and we'll get along just fine.

Included in the file are the following parts...

1. A featureless, baseline hull, which you can chop and channel to bring forth your own armored vision of the future.

2. Three different turrets: 1 unmanned weapons turret, 1 semi-finished turret, and 1 blank turret

3. Motive Bits: 2 styles of hover/anti-grav pod, and 1 heavy wheeled assembly with suspension

4. Weapons! 2 gatling barrels, 2 beam weapon barrels, 2 weapons cupolas, 2 different sizes of main gun breeches (compatible with the Saenz and Fletcher main guns).

5. Accessories: a crew hatch, a comm antenna, a panel of reactive armor, and a blank set of accessory mounting points for custom accessories that you sculpt.

6. A pair of unfused sample vehicles to give you a basic idea of the parts and their uses.

7. A set of 1-100th Scale Waldos, for sizing reference. The File and Waldos are oriented for 1-100th scale in Inches. Fortunately, everything in Rhino is scaleable between inches and metric, so don't worry about that.

The Universal Vehicle Parts File is offered for sale for $7.50 USD, a very good value considering a Waldo File is thrown in for free.

Here for your perusing is the Universal Mecha Parts File, a cross between clip art and a model kit. I call it a Stage One kit, since most of the jointing and general armor configurations have been laid out, but no real detailing has been undertaken. These, of course, are for you to sculpt, weld, grind, and etch digitally. The blue bits are the male halves of ball and socket joints that will enable your mecha to be assembled modularly, or as animation reference points. Note that the female halves of the joints are your's to carve out. There will be tutorials to explain this process. Those of you who are digital modelers already know how to Boolian Subtract the male joints from their intended female sockets. If that sounds like gibberish, not to worry, you'll soon learn as you begin to prototype in Rhino3d or MOI3d.

1. A baseline mecha and accomanying bits, which you can chop and channel to bring forth your own armored vision of the future.

2. A Waldo File, oriented, like the rest of the file, in 1-100th scale, and in Inches. If this is not to your liking, an easy resetting of Units to millimeters in your program will convert it easily for you metric types.

3. Understand that this is not a complete file. This is what manual sculptors refer to as a "dolly" or "subframe". This is the basic building block that will help you orient your own sculpture, giving you a common reference point that will allow your parts to interchange with each other, and possibly with the bits created by other digital sculptors. Completing this file will take some effort on your part. I you want to prototype a complete mecha, without the extra effort of scuplting your own bits, I recommend you purchase the Defender Mecha, found above.

All this work of mine is offered for sale for the princely sum of $7.50 USD. A number of hours went into this project, which translates to a number of hours saved by you if you want to get your own mecha project off the ground.

The Waldo Files

Who's Waldo? Waldo is a little stand-in I use for my prototyping. He's a 6 foot tall man, standing rigidly at attention, and scaled to the size I want to prototype in. Thus, in 1-100th scale, he's .72 inches tall. In 1-285th scale, he's .252 inches tall. If something doesn't look right when I'm sculpting, or if things have to be made with a modicum of realism, I put Waldo up against the object being sculpted. If it doesn't pass the "Waldo Test," it's back to the drawing board for the part.

Also included in the Waldo Files are my sculpting settings, which you will find in the Options command. These settings will give you the basic elements of making objects that pass the "Select Bad Objects" command. Closed, Correct NURBS objects (or "watertight" NURBS objects) are essential for making good, prototypeable .stl objects. These files should get you on your way to achieving that end.

The Best part of all: The Price. A Dollar! That useless, once-mighty monetary unit known as the Single, the Greenback, the Mr. George Washington. A mere fraction of your own currency, if you're one of those international types. Stop laughing as you rummage for loose change to buy these files.

Below are your Options...1-100th Scale, and 1-285th Scale, for now, along with your choice of Inch or Metric.

1. 1-100th Scale Waldo File, Inch, $0.99 USD

2. 1-100th Scale Waldo File, Metric, $0.99 USD

3. 1-285th Scale Waldo File, Inch, $0.99 USD

4. 1-285th Scale Waldo File, Metric, $0.99 USD
